CanoeKayak Canada High Performance Coach Development Grant
As Part of CanoeKayak Canada’s ongoing initiative to promote, provide and support professional development activities, is proud to announce the formation of the CKC High Performance Coach Development Grant. The purpose of the Coach Development Grant is to provide support for professional development opportunities for club and regional coaches to enhance their coaching knowledge.
This initiative is made possible through funding from Own The Podium.
GRANT GENERAL INFORMATION:
Grants will be awarded in two funding phases for the fiscal year.
1) April 1st – September 30th;
Application Deadline: Friday May 6th, 2011
2) October 1st – March 31st, 2012;
Application Deadline: Friday September 30th, 2011
Individual coach development grants will be to a maximum of $1,000 per application for Professional Development activities.
A maximum of $10,000 will be available for the fiscal year (i.e. up to $5,000 per funding phase).
Eligible Professional Development Opportunities include:
- Level IV tasks, or NCI
- Mentoring, observation (national, international)
- Exposure to higher level coaching or competitions
- Conferences, workshops, or other training opportunities
- Other NCCP education (relevant to canoe-kayak)
- Women in coaching opportunities (women working towards Competition - development certification)
Grant Pre-Requisites:
- Coaches must hold a minimum NCCP level III certified or Comp-Dev “trained” status to apply.
- Coaches must be actively coaching, and a member in good standing with CKC and their Divisions
- For mentoring opportunities, coach must provide endorsement by mentor (coach, sport scientist, etc)
- Preference will be given to those coaches who demonstrate personal commitment towards professional development
activities to enhance their coaching knowledge.
Application must include:
- a project proposal that describes the Professional Development activity
- Budget, or projected costs of Professional Development opportunity

Coach applicants are encouraged to find matching grants from other sources if required to participate in the professional development opportunity.
Other Grant Requirements and Responsibilities:
As part of receiving the funding to participate in professional development opportunities, coaches must present to their Clubs or Division any pertinent information gained from the PD experience.
