NCCP Instructor 2/Leaderships 2 (I2/L2)

Newsletter #1 - February 2011

Newsletter #2 - June 2011

Background

The NCCP I2/L2 is the newest certification offered by CanoeKayak Canada - Whitewater (CKC-W) for the recreational stream of Whitewater kayaking in Canada. The NCCP I2/L2 was launched in the spring of 2010, and in collaboration with Paddle Canada it will be the premier certification required by all Whitewater Kayak instructors in Canada by 2011.

With many different Whitewater kayaking certifications available in Canada, the CKC-W Coaching and Education Committee decided that a unified certification that aligned with the new NCCP paradigm was not only necessary, but integral in growing the sport nation-wide. Collaborating with key partners such as Paddle Canada, and supported by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) and Sport Canada, the five member Committee sought out and developed a framework to streamline instruction to align with CKC-W's Long-Term Paddler Development Model and continue to move the sport forward.

Thanks to the vision and tireless work of the CKC-Whitewater Education Committee:

    Getting Certified

To gain certification, an individual needs to contact their local Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) for information on program registration. Currently, CKC-W recognizes the following five PSO's. CKC-W is hoping to gain membership in Atlantic provinces, and launch this course in the Spring 2011. Please stay tuned.
