2013 ICF Club Crew DB World Championships – Selection Process

INTRODUCTION

In 2013, the ICF will hold the Dragonboat Club Crew World Championships in Kiev, Ukraine on September 12-15,   CKC Sprint Member Clubs are permitted entries to the ICF event.  The following principles, criteria and proposal outline how crew selection will occur in Canada. The process outlined below will apply for all future ICF Club Crew DB World Championships.

(Enabling participation in international Dragonboat paddling is a part of CKC-Sprint’s Strategic Plan to support multi-disciplinary paddling activities throughout Canada as part of its goal to further enhance a Healthy Club System and to realize the importance of the LTAD Active for Life Stage.)

2.  Selection Trials will be permitted as follows:

Pacific Division

Allocated ONE entry per event

Prairie Division

Allocated ONE entry per event

Atlantic Division

Allocated ONE entry per event

WOD,EOD,QUE

Allocated TWO entries per event

  • IF one extra entry slot per event becomes available they should be allocated to the Central Canada (WOD,EOD,QUE)Trials event in recognition of the Three Divisions at this event.
  • If additional entry slots beyond the one extra entry slot per event become available they will be allocated on a random wild card basis identical to the process used at the Sprint National CanoeKayak Championships.
  • Selections be finalized by July 5th, 2013
  • Unused entries can be reallocated.
  • The Divisions of CanoeKayak Canada are responsible to authorize the selection events described above.

 Rationale

  • Distance and travel costs remain a big factor in determining participation rates at selection events. Therefore, allocating one entry for Pacific, Prairie and Atlantic significantly reduces costs for transportation for the selection event.  Bear in mind, the winners from these Divisions will still have significant travel costs getting to the event.  Nevertheless, coming together is still the best means to ensure quality entries.
  • Extra slots are first allocated to equalize the treatment of each Division.  Beyond that, slots are allocated as per our existing policy for Sprint nationals ; ie. random wild cards.
