Mark de Jonge
Bio
Mofidier la bioMark has been kayaking since 1997 and had immediate success in the sport. In 1999, at his first national championships, Mark won his first national titles and has been enjoying success in the sport ever since, which includes 28 national gold medals to date. In 2009, Mark finished his BEng. (civil engineering) at Dalhousie University and began working full-time as an Engineer-In-Training.
It has always been Mark’s dream to win an Olympic gold medal and it didn’t feel right working full-time as an engineer while still having the potential to achieve this dream. This past year, Mark began training full-time again and has become one of the fastest kayakers in the world. At the World Championships last summer in Hungary, Mark finished 6th in the K-1 200m event and qualified a spot for Canada at this year's Olympic Games.
He followed up this success with a bronze medal at the Olympic Test Event in London. His results this past year show that he has what it takes to achieve his dream of an Olympic gold medal this summer in London.
